Saved My Life!

I had gotten increasingly deeply in debt slowly but surely over a period of many many many years, not because I was profligate, just that I was earning little more than minimum wage - and *was* a smoker! Despite hating my job, I carried on working for nearly three years after I reached pensionable age (at 63.5 years old) and did manage to pay off thousands of pounds worth of debt. But in the end the stress was too much, my physical & mental health gave out and I got sacked. I honestly thought I would lose everything - not just my very modest home but also all my near-worthless but treasured belongings - and end up living on the streets. I don't know what would have happened if a friend hadn't recommended me to StepChange! They were completely non-judgmental about how I'd gotten into debt, just explained to me about how they could help me set up a Debt Management Plan - which I am both willing and able to stick to - and have thus shielded me from all the awful threatening letters, etc!
