Payplan threw me a lifeline. I started hiding letters in obscure places, dredded the “brown envelopes”. Covid happened and my situation felt worse, the only thing I could be sure of is that no bailiffs would be hammering on my door any time soon, but I knew eventually this would come to an end. My anxiety levels where higher than Big Ben. I had the number for Payplan, every night before bed, I was going to make that call tomorrow so on and so on. I had a clear mind one day and dialled their number, filled with dread and embarrassment. How good to hear a friendly voice, no one judging me, kind and understanding while I let out what I thought was “my shame”. Relief at last when accepted, one payment every month.
