Started a policy I didn't authorise

This company started a policy without my consent when I was just enquiring about insurance and contacted me looking for £300 for a policy I didn't want and when I called them to tell them I didn't start this policy they just ignored me and wouldn't cancel it in time just telling me. They took money from my bank account as a cancellation fee £50. Complete conman just trying to make easy money. Surely They can't get away with this. I am contacting trading standards.
