Game-changing customer experience

Two reasons why you never want to deal with insurance companies: 1. Something has gone drastically wrong 2. If you claim, your premiums are going up so you end up paying in the long run. But there are occasions when insurance is inevitable. In my case, my wife and I decided to hold our wedding ceremony in a castle (I know, right) and after a magnificent tour of the grounds and rooms, picturing ourselves exchanging vows in ornate surroundings and sharing a couple of squeals of excitement, the dreaded words that turn your blood to ice in your veins were spoken, “You’ll need to arrange insurance”. As my soul left my body, I heard myself agreeing whilst in the distance Meatloaf sang he would do anything for love but he wouldn’t do that. No-one said the path of true love was easy. We found Event Insurance online and seeing that they did not require me to sell any vital organs to afford the quote, we arranged it because every insurance company is the same anyway, right? Wrong. Plot twist: A few weeks before the wedding, a minor inconvenience called COVID 19 shut the world down. Thankfully, the curators at the castle were amazing but the reception venue, after taking a substantial deposit, proved to be elusive. They didn’t respond at all to multiple enquiries to reschedule the reception. This is where Event Insurance and Lucy (our claim handler) really went above and beyond. From the beginning Lucy was friendly, empathetic and treated us like human beings. Despite this, I was suspicious because no-one in Insurance keeps their promises, right? Wrong again. Lucy made it her mission to get the reception venue to respond and she regularly contacted to keep us informed of her actions. Her tenacity made me never want to get on the wrong side of her but, when you have given up hope of ever seeing your hard-earned money again, sometimes you need a person who says, “Don’t worry bro, I got this”. If we had a child and they were taken, I’d tell Liam Neeson to sit this one out and get Lucy on the case. Despite COVID restrictions, our wedding went ahead eventually with a different reception venue. Lucy even wished us well which was a nice personal touch and we thought that was the end of it. We would all admit defeat. But Lucy continued her customer focus and refused to give up. At the beginning of this year, against all expectations, Lucy resolved the issue for us. I believe that Lucy could take her talents anywhere she wants so the fact she represents Event Insurance is a reflection on the company as a whole to retain someone of her calibre. Two things I learned from the experience 1. Don’t trust hipsters posing as restauranteurs and 2. Insurance can be a positive experience. I have recommended Event Insurance to multiple people and will continue to do so. If I could, I would insure everything with them.  Reviewed on: 21st July 2022
