An answer to my prayers

I was walking down the street swinging my arms humming a merry tune. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky. The sun was shining, the birds were singing. A slight summer breeze lazily tickled the back of my neck; it really was the perfect day. It was a perfect day, but my mind couldn’t help but wander to the free spirited care free rush of cruising down the motorway with the windows down and the soulful sounds of James brown entering my ears and scratching my brain. ‘I’ve had enough of this walking malarkey’ I thought to myself. My feet were beginning to hurt and there was a slight sweat creeping up under the collar of my shirt. After a long day in the office and then 30minutes on the jam packed stuffy metro link, the novelty of walking home had quickly worn off. Going back to having one family car had been a good idea at the time, but it was beginning to become a hassle for the family. Unlocking the front door, kissing my wife and children and greeting the dogs with a scratch behind the ears, I opened up the laptop and had a Google at loan businesses. And there it was, as if a beacon of light and the angels choir was singing, i saw exactly what I was looking for. ‘My community bank’. After a quick and easy process, within no time the money was in my bank account - I couldn’t believe my luck. The very next weekend we took a family outing to a car dealership, and the weekend after that i was bringing our new car home. With the wind in my hair and James brown in my ears, i could finally say goodbye to the stuffy metro-link and that sweaty walk home. As it happens 3 months after buying the car of our dreams it was written off and I was back on the metro link, but that’s neither here nor there. Reviewed on: 21st July 2022
