When the worst happens.....

I never paid much attention to travel insurance before and would just activate my banking app. After having a change in my medical circumstances, my bank came up with a ridiculous figure to upgrade so I discovered travelinsurance4medical were the cheapest. Part of me thought they were cheap as they wouldn't pay out or were dodgy but I just wanted extra security. The worst happened and I had a sudden cardiac arrest in Crete with my husband and children. I ended up in a hospital in Crete for 7 days before being sent by air ambulance to Athens for another 8 days before finally being sent home via another air ambulance to the UK directly to my hospital. This company covered everything from hospital to air ambulance, to a hotel for my husband in Athens to flying over a family member to look after my children. Throughout it all I was in daily contact, multiple times with a man called Gary West who was amazing! He dealt with my tears, tantrums, frustrations and I just knew he was doing everything he could to get us back home safely. Can't thank him enough! Some of the other staff admittedly weren't as good as him but I could feel the genuine despair at our situation and how hard he worked. Will definitely use again Reviewed on: 3rd September 2024

I’ve never paid too much attention to travel insurance before as I was always in the best health. I would activate our insurance through our banking rewards and think nothing of it. This year, because I had a new medical condition and it cost a fortune to upgrade insurance through out bank. When I looked closely at what was covered, it seemed we were well covered for loss of luggage and cancelled trips but not for any significant medical cover. I took out extra insurance for myself which had a high level of medical cover for a quarter of the price of what my bank were offering. Four days into my holiday in Crete with husband and kids, I suffered a cardiac arrest and after successful CPR from my husband we drove to the nearest hospital where I spent the next week before being airlifted to Athens for another week and finally coming home to the UK by air ambulance. Everything was covered as promised by this company and I have to give a special mention to an employee called Gary West with whom we were in daily contact with. He remained cool and calm even when dealing with my tears and histrionics. He never made me feel bad and I just KNEW how diligently he was working in the background to get my safely home.
