Bait, switch, and waste time - if your broker offers this, do not accept

Ever wondered why conveyancing takes so long? Here's a good insight - having discussed with a broker some mortgage options at the beginning of November, Platform offered the most appealing package and I was assured they were a good firm; with co-operative bank links they even sounded potentially more ethical. Weeks passed between the hurried application process and any news, only to be told they had a backlog. SIX WEEKS later they had managed to confuse my paying off a loan on the statements for 'secretly having another loan', reduced their offer (because of overall risk adjustment) then when told what they'd got wrong on the interpretation, said they were not accepting new business due to demand. SIX. WEEKS. Absolutely no accountability, no apology for the stress, just a huge delay and waste of time during which I could have gone with any number of other providers. Avoid at all costs, it could cost you the home you're buying. Reviewed on: 5th January 2023
