Policy cancelled for fitting towbar

Insured car with Flow. Later fitted towbar, when I informed them they said they didn't insure modified cars and cancelled the policy. I have studied the policy document and there is no mention of this restriction. I now have to declare that I have had a policy cancelled which means some firms won't quote as it makes me look dodgy.
