Review of the Hinckley & Rugby Building Society, Savings:

Lowered interest rate when others are increasing!

The Hinckley and Rugby BS only launched this account paying 4.75% interest less than 3 months ago. Now I’m informed that the rate is being reduced to 4.25%. This is at a time when all other banks and Building societies are increasing their rates. My view is that this was a deliberate higher rate initially to attract new customers and they intended all along to reduce the rate shortly afterwards. Of course they will rely on the fact that 4.25% is still a good rate and customers can’t be bothered to close their accounts. Disgusting and unethical strategy. Reviewed on: 21st April 2023
