An odd phone call .

I recently sent in a passbook to transfer a expiring Cash ISA to a new 2-year one but was surprised to receive a "courtesy call" asking for details of my address and national insurance number. I gave the information then wondered if I'd been the victim of a scam. I was reassured by the fact that the caller was ringing from a Mansfield number . . . and the passbook was eventually returned, together with the new one - but still don't understand why a courtesy call should need the information required from me. Full marks to the Chesterfield Branch

Took up Mark Higginbottom's advice to open up a high-interest savings account and it was good to deal with someone who is reliably friendly and knowledgeable. It's always reassuring to know that the Chesterfield branch has sensible opening hours and is well situated. Reviewed on: 23rd February 2024
