Impersonal and slow

HSBC have a global image and might be handy if you’re international. However, I found them to be very impersonal and lacking in basic service. Their telephone colleagues don’t know what to do, and it’s a nightmare speaking to someone in my local branch (average wait 1 hour). App works alright but nothing special. I’m mostly disappointed in their ethical status and lack of value from everyday products. I’ve closed my account and will be going somewhere I’m treated as a person and not number! Slow and limited

If you’re looking for a basic current account, this will work fine. I also like the friendly approach from the Co-op, and ethical status. However, phone hold times often get in the excess of 1 hour and there’s no other way to communicate. The app is very limited in what you can do, and everything is just slow. I love the freedom of opening different savings pots with Nationwide and naming them to different things. Transferring is so easy and the Flex Instant Saver as an industry average rate currently. Reviewed on: 11th March 2024

My first choice

I’ve used Nationwide since I was born for finance - they are always so helpful and friendly compared to other banks, making it feel more comfortable. They offer great member rewards and I love the Fairer Share payments. Their current accounts are simple to use but come with all the functionalities you need, and the app is gradually getting better. I have most confidence in dealing with Nationwide, especially in the speed if you do need to call them. Reviewed on: 11th March 2024

Easy to setup and always a pleasure to manage online. The app provides all the information you need and is easy to use. Just not sure on my returns compared to competitors. I love my setup cashback offer however. Reviewed on: 11th March 2024
