Review of the StepChange, Debt advice:

About 10 years since my own money has been mine

I'm very happy with stepchange they've taken care of pretty much everything for me. I contacted stepchange a few times for help, wait times were long but but they are working for a lot of people so it should be expected and the longest I waited was about 20 minutes. They helped me each time, made me feel reassured and advised me what I needed to do if there was anything for me to do. The only reason I've had to speak with debtors is because of automated responses from them and my contact to them was just checking I was ok to ignore those responses. It's been a tough journey so far 8 months in and 12 to go I've changed the amounts I pay to stepchange several times along the way already because of changes to energy usage over winter and receiving more income that I decided to add to the DMP. I didn't have to talk with anyone to do this I just used the online account and did a budget review. My advice for people thinking of sorting their debts is start as soon as you can and do it with stepchange because it's free, be prepared to put some work in to begin with because they need you to tell them as much as possible and be prepared for debtors to sell up or change, I was confused when the names of my debtors changed but it's because many of them have debt managers within their companies now. I had 9 different debtors all together so it was a a bit of leg work on my end but this is only because I was so unorganised if you're the same as me just get it done, call them up get the amounts and account references and give the information to stepchange. It's an anxious first few months but you will be ok and when you're done paying back you can finally enjoy being paid again I know I will, it's been nearly 10 years since my own money has been mine I can't wait.
