Review of the StepChange, Debt advice:

Thank you StepChange. I'm now Debt Free and Stress free

4 years ago I realised that although I had never defaulted on my credit cards and loan payments, always the paying what was asked for on my statements new regulations from the banks put me into what they termed 'persistent debt' increasing my monthly payments. Being self-employed at the beginning of the Covid epidemic and not being able to work I was finding it impossible to make the monthly repayments. This situation caused me incredible stress and sleepless nights. I initially went to Citizens Advice who referred me to StepChange. From my first phone call to them I received positive advice and support of how to proceed to become debt free. StepChange helped me with my monthly budget and cancelling the interest being charged by the banks on my accounts, relieving my stress and anxiety regarding my financial situation. The benefits of dealing with my creditors through this incredible organisation took a great weight of my shoulders. Although I was told it would take me 4 years to complete my Debt Management Plan, I knew with the ongoing support of StepChange I would be able to manage my finances through this period and become Debt Free! During this period I did at times find it difficult but StepChange were at the other end of the phone giving me positive support and advice. Last month, after 4 years I became totally debt free with a positive and stress free future regarding my personal finances.
