In November 2019, I was forced to face my financial situation. It wasn’t pleasant, I couldn’t pay my debts, I didn’t have enough money to live on and I felt powerless and had a lot of shame. Calling Stepchange was one of the most difficult calls I’ve ever had to make but from the moment I spoke to someone there, things started to change. I felt first and foremost that someone was on my side and they helped me to believe I could move forward and be debt free one day. Now I won’t be debt free for a couple of years yet but I do know I will be. Working with Stepchange has changed me and my attitude towards money and having ‘things’. I am now in control of my financial situation, I live within my means and appreciate the things I have got. This approach of a step at a time, reviewing things regularly and the pastoral care provide is empowering in a way I can’t explain, and all this knowledge, support and care is provided by people I will never meet… I am grateful for all the support I have received so far and once I hit the zero balance, will be forever grateful as I will have complete control of my financial situation and therefore my life.
