I keep a Barclaycard credit card as backup to the one I use more regularly but I have used it this year and seeral times in the past to transfer large balances from that other card to their long term excellent interest free offers and pay back the debt in a controlled way over that longer period while running day to day expenses on the other card. This has allowed me to complete the oayment for some large home improvement projects in a decent time frame without the hassle of applying for a loan and with only a transfer fee to oay rather than a lot of interest.
