Highly recommended local Building Society..

The staff at the Grange Over Sands Branch are extremely friendly, informative and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble, and they are happy to give their time to help their customers with their respective requirements. They provide excellent "old fashioned customer service" unlike most other financial institutions these days. I would highly recommend the Grange Branch for anyone looking for financial advice whether it be savings or mortgage assistance. Reviewed on: 18th September 2026

Unnecessary cost and delay to get money after a death

Furness building society insist that you apply for Probate if someone passes away and their account holds more than £15,000, even if the money is being transferred to a spouse. Probate will cost a minimum of £215 and it will take at least 6 weeks. At a time when people are at their most vulnerable, Furness Building Society insist that you incur unnecessary costs and delays. Other banks and building societies allow you to withdraw the money without getting probate. Aging or ill account holders may want to consider using another Bank or Building Society.
