Unreliable card for 2nd card holder

As a second card holder, my card is always being declined 'just in case of fraud'. I am appreciative of fraud prevention, but I cannot tell you how many times I've been left high and dry in a shop, and they will only deal with the primary cardholder to sort these matters. I haven't used my personal card for months now and just have my husband's card on my Apple Pay - but it leaves me without a physical card. Also, adding the card to Apple Pay, requires a phone call, rather than just confirmation within the app (which in today's day and age, with everyone being so busy, is a ball ache!).
