Review of the Starling Bank, Current account:

A banking sensation

I've had accounts with several banks but none have compared to Starling Bank. Instant transfers to other accounts allows me to pay friends and family with no hassle. Direct debits and standing orders, allowing my bills to get paid with ease. Being a mobile only bank account, the app which Starling provides to manage your account is sensational. Such ease of use with a fantastically designed user interface with many features. To open an account I simply provided my details along with a photo of my driver's licence and a selfie video of me asking for a Starling account, all within the app. Easy! Their "Spaces" feature, which allows you to create a Space to transfer monies into, has allowed me to put cash away to save for upcoming events such as going on holiday. It even allows you to label this Space (e.g. Barcelona), set a background photo (e.g. Barcelona skyline) and set a target value to save. It keeps these monies separate from your main balance, easily transferred into and out of, instantly. An incredible feature. In the statement section of the app, each transaction is labelled simply (e.g. Sainsbury's, or Tesco) and are coupled with icons which can be, for example, the logo of the merchant, makes for a visibly pleasing statement. The app gives you the ability to view by transaction or even by merchant, allowing you to calculate exactly how much you spent with a merchant over a period of time (e.g. just how much did I spend at Tesco this month?). Being a branchless bank, Starling have given the ability to deposit funds via Post Office. There is a Post Office closer to where I live than there is a bank branch. I'm sure the same can be said for many folk in the UK, even on the smaller remote islands! I will be a Starling customer for as long as Starling or I exist, and here's hoping longevity to both.
