Being honest and seeking help

The stress of being in debt was keeping me awake at night, was an ever decreasing circle of trying to pay for everything, realising that having a loan ultimately did not help. Firstly it was a friend who was a sympathetic ear and said I should talk to my creditors. Then it was one of my creditors (M&S) who suggested Step Change. The first call was very emotional, I cried 90% of the time as I simply felt so ashamed that I had not coped with money at all well. I was meant to be an adult. I had a job I loved but no concept of budget. And then Covid happened with all the changes it involved - even not being able to carshare doubled my travel costs. It was all a knock on effect as well as my not being money savvy. Step Change has helped so much. I gauged their help by how much I cried each call. The last main call it was only 10% which was from being overwhelmed with how kind and understanding all of the people had been in helping me to sort out a DMP. There was no judgement, no low opinion of how I’d managed so far. (I’d done that to myself already) They were simply brilliant in their approach and I cannot recommend them highly enough as a way forward to resolve debt issues. Thank you.
