Review of the PayPal, PayPal Credit:

The same as any loan service really.

The only problem I've had with PayPal Credit involved securing a refund from a company who were adamant not to give me one, even though they were in the wrong. I used PayPal Credit to pay for the item as it was an expensive purchase for me. The basic gist of the situation was I ordered an item and the company I ordered it from sent me the wrong thing (significantly less in value). I complied with their return and refund policy the first time, and they offered me a discount in apology, and encouraged me to re-order the item with the promise they'd fixed the warehouse issue and I would receive the correct thing this time. I again received the wrong item. On both occasions, the company's customer service was non-existent (online chat only) and they refused to believe I'd been sent the wrong item, making it difficult for me to organise a return (I'm talking over a week of emails, both times, to convince them what I had received was not what I had ordered - they just would not believe me, no matter my evidence - I was also passed around to multiple different workers, and had to re-explain the issue every time). So inevitably, I had to open up a claim with PayPal. My argument was that it was the company's fault for making the same mistake twice, they were deliberately making communication difficult so that they wouldn't have to refund me, and so I felt a goodwill gesture would have been for PayPal to help me secure a full refund without me having to return the second incorrect item. PayPal customer service sided with the retailer and not me, however, despite the situation, and despite personal circumstances (that I explained to them) which made completing the return difficult for me at the time. In the end, on PayPal's advice (and because the company wouldn't even waive the return fees at this point), I paid return postage, and made the trip to return the incorrect item at great cost to my health. PayPal advised this because otherwise the company could wait for my claim to elapse without refunding me, and I would be unable to take any further action. Because by this point I can only assume tormenting me was funny or something, the company reached out to me one hour after I'd provided evidence to them and PayPal of the return to say I could keep the item after all and they would give me a full refund. I didn't feel like that was fair and I honestly felt like there was very little understanding or consideration afforded to me as the consumer from PayPal. It really felt (to me) like all of my stress could have been avoided if they'd just advocated for me on my behalf, like I was led to believe (from other customer testimonies) they would. The errant company in question was basically allowed to mistreat me, and there was nothing I could do about it. I ended up out of pocket during a health crisis, and in the middle of a house move. It has just forever left a negative impression for me and once I have paid off my remaining balance I will likely not use PayPal Credit again. In terms of PayPal Credit as a lender, however, it's the same as any loan service. Make your payments on time, and you won't have any trouble. I have never missed a payment (for the purchase in question, I paid the balance off very promptly BOTH times), and so have had no trouble outside of that one negative customer service experience. PayPal Credit itself is very informative - I know exactly what I have to pay and when, and I don't live in fear of any surprise interest charges. I'm on track to paying off the small amount on there left and I hope to never have to make a PayPal claim ever again (by just avoiding using them for purchases in the future, to be honest). They are not as helpful at securing refunds from crooked companies as I was led to believe they would be, and I really needed their help at that time. Reviewed on: 27th May 2025
