StepChange helped me in a crisis.

Supporting an adult child on the autism spectrum who ran up terrifying debts impacted on my own finances. I used my own credit cards and bank loans to clear their debts, then my mortgage shot up during the Liz Truss premiership. StepChange set up payments with my with creditors, and it is a huge weight off my mind. Reviewed on: 13th May 2026

A well-informed and supportive helping hand

I was very confused and anxious about what I should do. The options explained by StepChange were clear and very helpful. StepChange negotiated monthly payments with my creditors and this was a huge help. I now pay an agreed monthly amount which StepChange divides among the creditors. However, I am still struggling, as the cost of essentials, energy and council tax has risen, and this has wiped out the increase in my state pension. I am hoping StepChange can shortly help me to come to a new arrangement with my creditors and I am gratefyl for the calm support and advice the advisors offer. Reviewed on: 6th June 2025
