This is your chance at a lifeline; don’t underestimate the impact of your first call to Stepchange. There is no judgment, just listening and understanding. And… a way forward. When my husband lost his business he hid the legacy debt from me, until it was almost too late. A friend recommended Stepchange so we sat together and called. The call handlers are empathic and calm. They made us see the road ahead and what we needed to do. They took a huge weight from us and contacted companies for us (where possible). I’m honestly not sure how we would have sorted things without them. Spiraling debt can happen to anyone - don’t feel bad and don’t let it destroy you. It’s a long road but, hey, everyone has bills to pay, it’s all part of the journey. Reviewed on: 8th June 2025
