Opposite of helpful

I had some credit problems many years ago and used clearscore to check how bad the situation was now, I put in accurate up to date information it gave me an average rating and was encouraged to apply for a credit card as it said I should to improve my score and I was likely to be accepted. I did so, immediately rejected for the standard card they recommended (rather than a starter type card I would've got) so now my credit rating will drop further.
