Review of the PayPal, Debit card:

A Debit card of no use

2
Ii was recently offered PayPal’s debit card service after being a customer for nearly 12 years and i got it because of the heavily advertised PayPal+ rewards scheme. All went well , and the card arrived promptly after requesting in the app but I started having problems from day 1 . The biggest issue was not being able to fill up my PayPal balance despite using their add money feature. Being so concerned that the card was getting declined wherever I used )due to not pulling money from the linked in debit card or bank), I raised my first queries via chat assistant in app. I had an extremely difficult time and nearly after over an hour of battling with the AI chat bot, I raised a formal complaint only to receive an automated computer generated response that was non- related to the issue I had . Because of the systemic inaccessibility and being worried that payments could be missed, I asked my wife to pay my PayPal wallet from her PayPal account that also held up in the air and was credited in my PayPal wallet nearly after a month . Somehow I averted being marked as a missing payment after at the last minute being able to manually transfer the relevant amount to clear into the account. I have never been so anxious in using my own debit card in transactions because 9/10 tge transaction either declines or some other problem occurs. The PayPal+ rewards program that gives one point for every £1 feels like a joke as it just sits within the account with incredibly less options to redeem the points for vital transactions and the key point is that the rewards can only be used if the provider offers redemption at PayPal checkout, that too only linked with the credit card not the debit card . So I have not had good experience with this product and I’m still unable to add money in my PayPal wallet even when I’ve linked in all my accounts Reviewed on: 28th April 2026

worst customer service experience

2
I am writing this review as I have had significant hurdles as a customer of PayPal credit and debit card , all experienced soon after PayPal rolled out their debit and credit cards and introduced the new PayPal + rewards program. Don’t get me wrong- PayPal credit has its place , especially at the checkout with some providers where 0% pay in 4 options are offered allowing to purchase products and spread it in 4 equal instalments. However , since the introduction of these new products, the quality of service for instances with unwarranted re-payment suddenly being collected from the bank, inability to add PayPal balance even when you have linked the respective bank accounts and credit cards and most importantly the spelling AI chat assistant that is incredibly hard to bypass and seek an immediate resolution has made my recent interactions draining and exhausting. When I’ve raised complaints querying any payments , I get a totally unrelated computer generated response with the title FINAL RESPONSE which shows how callous this organisation has become . For someone who has an excellent credit file like me and given that I’ve always made my payments on time, my credit limit has not even increased even by £10 over 10 years. Unlike other credit providers, there are also no options for customers to manually request an increase in credit limits making PayPal credit of no use when you want to use it for example getting a flight or any high value product for that matter..The PayPal + rewards program is an absolute failure as despite having accumulated points the options for redeeming PayPal credits almost never appear at the checkouts and I have only witnessed it appearing on one ocassion. There are no other ways at all to redeem points like towards uber or a takeaway etc and you just see a number in the app which is of no benefit to the customer whatsoever. As also a disabled user and a busy healthcare professional, I feel their internal policies making the app inaccessible & withholding benefits feel feel quite discriminatory in nature- Reviewed on: 28th April 2026
