No one was coming to save me. Changed my life.

Step change has changed my life. Single parent, part time carer and full time nursing student - I was drowning in debt (22K) which accumulated from bad financial decision making, having children young, always in full-time work however with one income relied on credit cards to help - over 8 years this accumulated, I didn’t know a way out, I was offered an IVA through a private company however after realising only 8% of my monthly payback was going to the creditors it didn’t feel right. I borrowed the money - I wanted to PAY it ALL back a rightly so. Therefore a friend had used Step Change - I won’t lie, the time spent forumulating a plan, getting all the creditors in place and happy took 5-8 weeks however now repaying £384 a month (doable) and knowing my money is going back to creditors makes me feel on top of the world. I will never look at credit the same, I was young, no help from family or friends, children and single however working full time I was barely keeping myself above water - genuinely step change has changed my life. I have 4 years and 10 months with the them to pay my creditors off however this is doable and I’m meeting the payments each month now and not worrying about paying my creditor back - the stress is elevated. I would recommend Step Change to anyone. I knew noone was coming to save me, however StepChange gave me a life line and really changed my life. Thank you! Reviewed on: 6th May 2026
