Don’t know where I’d be without them, truly!

When I got introduced to step change, to be honest, I was drowning in debt. I had fled domestic violence but the bills had piled up whilst being financially controlled. After I left, I didn’t know where to even start or what to pay first with being a newly single mother. The sound of the letterbox moving started to panic me on the daily as I just didn’t know how to pay all these creditors the debts had racked up with for so long, with letters being sent to me constantly with bailiff notices, county court judgements, the lot, genuine fear would flush through me every single day. Step Change have taken this fear away almost completely, they assess the finances and let your creditors know how much you can realistically pay. I did this after an amazing breathing space period that they put in place over Christmas, which helped me so much mentally. I’ve almost paid back all of my debt already and as of November this year I’ll be completely debt free! Thank you so so much Step Change, you’ve given me and my boys our life back. I no longer panic over the sound of the letterbox. I no longer go days without food so my kids can eat instead. It’s truly changed my life and means I don’t have to rely on abuse and I can live my life again! Reviewed on: 19th May 2026
