My debts got out of control.

My debts got out of control after having to use credit cards for everyday spending. My husband was made redundant a month after having a baby, not something we ever imagined would happen. I was paying the minimum but spending more. £35k later it got to a point where I could no longer afford the monthly payments and I started to panic. Called step change and they were able to advise me how to approach my debts, made contact with my lenders and a debt management plan was put in place. A monthly payment I can afford along with my normal outgoings. I can now sit down in the evening and not worry I’m going further into debt and provide for my family. Reviewed on: 1st June 2026
