I’ve been using PayPal for over 10 years now, both as a regular shopper and occasionally for selling items online, and it’s definitely my go-to payment method for almost everything I buy or sell on the internet. What I love most is how widely accepted it is — almost every online store, marketplace, or small business takes it, and checkout is always super fast and easy. I never have to type out my card details or worry about them getting shared with sellers, which gives me real peace of mind. Their Buyer Protection has saved me twice when items never arrived or were completely different from what was advertised; the process was straightforward, I just uploaded proof and got my money back within a week. Sending money to friends or family is also simple and free if you use your bank balance — perfect for splitting bills or sending cash quickly. That said, it’s not perfect. The fees really add up, especially if you sell things or receive payments from other countries. For every sale, you lose nearly 3% plus a fixed fee, and international transfers or currency conversions are way more expensive than using services like Wise or Revolut. If you’re a small seller or freelancer, that can eat into your profit quite a lot. Another big downside: account holds and restrictions. When I started selling more regularly, they put a 21-day hold on all my incoming money “for security reasons”. I understood why, but it was really annoying not being able to access my own funds immediately, and getting it released early took a lot of back and forth with support. Speaking of support — it’s hit or miss. Sometimes I get a helpful reply quickly, other times it takes days, and it’s hard to reach a real person instead of automated messages. Overall though, I still use it every day. Nothing beats the trust, safety, and how easy it is to use everywhere. If you shop mostly or only use it for personal payments, it’s brilliant. If you run a business or do lots of international work, just be aware of the costs and keep records so you don’t run into issues. Would I recommend it? Yes — just know what you’re paying for.
