Avoid this company.

Avoid this company. I purchased building insurance from them through Comparethemarket.com. During the application process I declared a drains claim which was not paid 4.5 years ago as the insurer decided it wasn't covered. 3 weeks into the policy they contacted me saying I had undeclared claims and needed to provide a letter on headed paper from my previous insurer explaining the claims. Initially I had no idea what they were referring to but when they provided the dates I worked out is was a claim against my contents insurance for a pair of lost spectacles. I explained that this was a claim against contents not buildings insurance and they insisted anyway. I've doublechecked the comparethemarket site. when applying for buildings insurance there are no categories in the "What was the cause of the claim" section which correspond to a contents insurance claim. I managed to get the letter from an old insurer and uploaded it to their portal. A few days later I received an email stating that they were adding an additional premium to my account, without stating what the additional premium was except it was inclusive of a £42.50 administration fee. They do not provide any way of communicating with them except chat. I told them to cancel the policy. For 1 month of cover it has cost me £201.08 from an initial 568.21 Reviewed on: 26th June 2026
