LittleBox score of 20/100, but Admiral could not explain or verify the data I purchased an Admiral LittleBox policy for my new Tesla Model Y. After only around one month, the app gave me a score of 20/100 and recorded approximately 80 driving events, including phone distraction, harsh braking, acceleration and speeding. Admiral then issued a formal notice stating that my policy would be cancelled because of my score. I reviewed the individual trips carefully. Some acceleration events may have been genuine, and I accept responsibility for those. However, many other recordings did not make sense. Phone-use events appeared when my son, who was the passenger, was selecting music on my phone, or when I was having a hands-free Bluetooth call through the Tesla’s built-in system. Braking events were frequently recorded when I simply lifted my foot from the accelerator and the Tesla slowed through regenerative braking, without me pressing the brake pedal harshly. My main concern was not that LittleBox monitors driving—I understood and accepted that condition. My concern was whether its data and scoring were technically accurate and appropriate for a Tesla, and whether passenger phone activity and hands-free calls could be distinguished from illegal handheld phone use. When I raised a formal complaint, Admiral did not provide the underlying data, scoring thresholds, technical explanation or meaningful review of the disputed events. Their response was essentially that I had accepted the LittleBox terms and should not have chosen the policy if I did not accept them. Accepting telematics monitoring does not mean a customer must accept potentially inaccurate classifications without explanation or an effective route to challenge them. I ultimately cancelled the policy voluntarily and moved to another insurer to avoid having an insurer-initiated cancellation recorded against me. I asked Admiral to close the complaint because I had decided to leave—not because the technical concerns had been satisfactorily answered. However, their closing letter stated that my concerns had been addressed and the complaint resolved, which does not accurately reflect why I ended the process. Customers considering LittleBox—particularly Tesla and other electric-vehicle drivers—should understand the potential consequences of the scoring system and ask Admiral how regenerative braking, passenger phone use and hands-free Bluetooth calls are identified before accepting the policy.
