Review of the Saga, Home insurance:

good value, but a concerning experience

We have our car and home insurance with Saga and have generally been very happy with them. Their prices have been competitive and, until recently, we had never had any reason to complain. Unfortunately, I contacted them recently to ask whether some non-structural DIY I was considering would be covered under my policy. I hadn’t started the work - I was simply checking first to make sure I was complying with the terms of my insurance. Two days later, I received a letter saying my insurance had been cancelled. This was incredibly shocking. It appears that something was misunderstood between the call centre and the underwriter, but rather than clarifying the situation, the policy was simply cancelled. It then took numerous calls and emails before I finally reached someone who reviewed the case properly and confirmed that Saga had made a mistake, and they reinstated the policy. I’m pleased they ultimately put things right, but the experience has seriously shaken my confidence in them. I now feel nervous about carrying out even basic painting or DIY in my own home in case asking a question results in my insurance being cancelled again. After being a loyal customer and previously having a very positive view of Saga, this was a deeply disappointing and unnecessarily stressful experience. Reviewed on: 26th August 2026
