Review of the Hastings Direct, Car insurance:

No support/taking advantage of new drivers

My sister started learning to drive and took out a learners insurance. She had her driving score go below 30 ONCE, (she is learning) and had her policy cancelled. They told her she had until the 28th to fix her score, so she got it back up to 70 but then discovered they'd get cancelled it on the 22nd without warning. The score also kept dropping on the app when she wasn't even driving and the car was sat staionary on the drive. Had a phone call and they confirmed that if the score drops below 30 once, the policy gets cancelled. Not very helpful for young people or new drivers trying to learn how to drive? No chance to make mistakes and improve, instant cancellation which will stay with them every time they try to take out a new policy anywhere. How can you expect drivers to learn when you cancel their policies for learning? If you are a new driver, this is not the insurance for you. Reviewed on: 23rd September 2026
