Review of the Starling Bank, Current account:

Love it

By far my most favourite thing about this bank is the "Spaces" feature. Makes saving and keeping money aside for different purposes easy, without the hassle of separate accounts for different functions. Being able to choose a picture for each Space also makes watching my savings build up more enjoyable. The layout of the app is intuitive and easy to use. I also appreciate the amount of control over the card it gives- if I can't find it then I can lock my card, or I can prevent it from being used for certain types of payments. Paying or receiving money is also easy with the option to transfer money to someone nearby if they also have Starling. The only thing that was a slight annoyance (this is nitpicking and not reason enough to remove a star), was that I had trouble joining because of being a British citizen but having been born abroad (my father was in the army). They requested proof that I can live in this country (I can't remember the exact name of the documentation), but the app was quite inflexible at this point and I didn't know how to tell them that I neither had nor needed this documentation. I tried sending a photo of my passport but they couldn't accept it because it had expired. I resorted to sending a photo of my driving licence again along with a photo of my (military) birth certificate in the hopes that this would make clear why I was born in Germany but a British citizen. After a slightly longer wait than normal I think this must have been reviewed by someone at Starling because I was then accepted. I have had no other problems in the course of using Starling since. For everyone else I know who uses Starling the process of opening an account has been easy and VERY fast. Reviewed on: 19th January 2020
