Review of the Santander, Mortgage:

Terrible, terrible, terrible

My wife and I used to bank with the then Abbey National. They were great, then Santander took over and the quality of service dropped like a stone. Call centres were moved abroad, we couldn't understand each other. We were able, when with Abbey to take a payment break on our mortgage when I fell ill and lost my job. Not with Santander we couldn't. It was as if they just wanted your money and didn't give a stuff about customers. We decided enough was enough and moved to Alliance and Leicester, things were great again, customer service was top notch, we could get all of the great things we had before. Then disaster struck, Santander took over Alliance and Leicester. We can't move our mortgage at the minute due to a default on 1 missed payment to a different lender. Service is bottom drawer, they don't listen and don't care or understand your requirements. We don't feel like customers we feel like numbers there is no personal customer experience. Super Zopa, no drama.

I contacted so many lenders and was turned down as I had 1 missed payment to a previous lender and was, unbelievably defaulted as a result. My 12 year old car had had enough and was scrapped, I loved that car (sad face). None of the lenders I contacted would entertain me due to the default I contacted Zopa and within minutes I had the funds to buy some new wheels to enable me to get to work. I gave recommended Zopa to friends and family some of them have also had great service from them. I would definitely use Zopa again even now that the default has cleared.
