A great way to encourage financial independence

My two sons love their GoHenry cards as they give them a measure of financial independence. I chose not to impose any spending limits because they need to learn that it's their money, and once it's gone, it's gone. My 12 year old has already learned the hard way that if you spend too much on gaming there's not enough left to pay for vitally important things like his Xbox Live subscription - ouch! As a parent, I like the fact that the app is easy for us all to use and gives me a precise overview of spending activity. We also like the fact that the cards can be used anywhere a 'normal' bank card can be used (providing you want to authorise that) so my son's have gained valuable experience of using cash machines, making contactless payments and purchasing things online. I would recommend this to anybody as a great way of teaching financial responsibility. Reviewed on: 18th January 2021
