Review of the Santander, Mortgage:

If I could give no stars then I would. I had been with Santander for 5 years for a mortgage making regular payments each month and never having a late payment., we also have been overpaying each month for the last 2 years. Right the way through lockdown me and my wife have been working right through and never been furloughed. I rang Santander in October to see if we were able to borrow more money there first phone call which lasted 30 minutes they stated how much we could borrow and we had passed the MIP. We then proceeded to put an offer in on a property and start the mortgage process. We waited 3 weeks for a mortgage advisor to call us to discuss the application and to tell us rates etc which the call lasted another 60 minutes. He then said that were were still eligible for a mortgage. I then waited a further 2 weeks for a decision to be then told that they were unable to provide a mortgage because as being a company director they said that because of COVID that they were predicting that the company accounts net profit would be down for the following financial year without having any proof of this. I found this really difficult to believe that they would deny us a mortgage because of the prediction. I appealed against the decision and they offered me £100 compensation because they said that they could have answered me faster. I find it quite annoying that I was offering them over £80k deposit and still they refuse me after saying that I was okay. I then went onto Barclays and successfully got a mortgage within 6 weeks. We then had to pay nearly £2500 to get out the mortgage with Santander which i am in the process of taking them to the ombudsman to get my money back . All the stress they have caused me plus we nearly lost the house because of Santander. I am absolutely disgusted with them. Reviewed on: 24th February 2021
