Review of the Metro Bank, Current account:

Metrobank is a lone flower in a field full of shit

I would be no fan of banks/financial services in general - at best I'd just about acknowledge them as a necessary evil. So it takes a hell of a lot to make me associate feelings like 'joy' and 'loyalty' with such an entity. However. I CANNOT fault Metrobank on anything. I've been with them since they opened and they have always made everything so easy, despite my always unconventional circumstances. From opening the account to adding my partner, to separating the accounts again when we got divorced, to me changing my name, and being transgender, they make it work with such clarity and efficiency and humanity. Bottom line is the services all just actually work the way they should, I've never been charged a fee for anything and the staff have never been anything other than remarkable on a personal level. if this is possible, why arent all banks doing it? MetroBank have always been so far ahead of the curve, I feel consistently lucky that back at the start they were the only high street operator who would give me a proper current account. They've led the way on longer opening hours, decent online banking, card printing in store, diversity & inclusion, and more. Most banks hang a token pride flag up once a year just to cash in on the pink pound, and do fuck all for LGBTQ+ when it comes to their day to day operations; Metrobank brought in gender-neutral titles like 'Mx' around 7 years ago, meanwhile a lot of bigger banks still haven't managed it. Since being with them so much of the stress has gone out of engaging with banking, I manage my finances better as a result. I'm concretely better off for opening this account and I doubt I would ever go anywhere else. Reviewed on: 6th March 2021
