Review of the Ecology Building Society, Mortgages:

Excellent in every way

In 2013 I required a mortgage to complete an architecturally designed Siberian Larch 4 bedroom house in rural Argyll. RBS, with whom I have had personal and business accounts since 1963, were emphatic in their denial - as were many other lenders - because I was either too old (mid sixties and well able to repay any mortgage!) or because wood was not acceptable in rural Scotland! Fortunately, Ecology Building Society were more than happy to listen to.me and offer me an affordable mortgage. I felt I was dealing with empathetic staff who seemed to regard my building project as normal and who were prepared to lend the full mortgage I requested. Since then there has even been a reduction in my repayments. I cannot fault Ecology in any way and cannot commend them highly enough. Other lenders should take note! Reviewed on: 11th March 2021
