Review of the Ecology Building Society, Savings:

My son introduced me to the ethical way of dealing with money

My father died in 2009 and I inherited a share of his estate. I wanted to share the money with my three children, all married with families, to use as they needed. My youngest son Miles was the one who introduced me to Ecology Bank as he asked me to use his share to set up an Ecology bank savings account for him. Using some of these savings he bought a plot of land in Wales 2012, where the family still live sustainably. As he needed to invest in the main infrastructure, he withdrew the amounts he needed. Prioritising essentials first such as a bore hole, solar power and a large polytunnel where they grow fruit and vegetables. They have planted an orchard and areas of woodland. They still have to save to invest in building an Eco-house. The land has building consent in perpetuity. So far he has dug the footings. I didn't succeed in investing savings in Ecology bank for myself until last year. I have only ever banked with building societies and felt I needed a physical bank where I could go to talk to advisors. I was forced into the internet way of banking during lockdown. This prompted me at the age of 78 to open an ecology savings account where a nominated amount each month is moved from my Nationwide current account to Ecology Building society. I chose the maximum I could. I am completely satisfied and very pleased to feel that my savings are now in a Building Society that supports Ecological ways of life which to my mind is the ethical way to live. Conservation is the way of life I endeavour to follow. I have worked as volunteer for community gardens wherever I have lived. Thank you Ecology Building Society for these opportunities.
