Illegal scam practices

Asked me to contact them after taking out insurance as they said it may be invalid. Customer services talked me through some minor changes that they said wouldn’t impact the quote but that I should change, such as increasing my mileage from 1000 to 2000 miles as I had previously asked for a quote on that mileage a few years previously and they’d checked their records. She was quite persuasive so I agreed, despite not needing the change. She then said “I just need to double check that this won’t alter the premium” and got me to confirm that I was happy for her to check. After a few minutes she returned and confirmed there was no premium change, as we knew there wouldn’t be. She then said there was a £35 charge for checking, I said I’d like to cancel, she said “certainly that’s no problem, there’s a £60 cancellation fee, shall I credit the remainder to your card?”, the insurance hadn’t even started. I’ve never encountered this sort of manipulation and blackmail from a company before, I was forced to pay the fee and she knew she had me over a barrel, makes me feel sick to the pit of my stomach that this sort of practice should be allowed to continue, I only hope my review will enable others to avoid this scam company.
