Review of the Starling Bank, Business Account:

Rewarding business account transfer in a challenging year.

5
We had our business account with NatWest since our start up in 2015 - the local Nat West branch, 10 minutes walk up the road has since been turned into a trendy bar. Fast forward 5 years later to Winter of 2020, by which time we have all had enough of the pandemic and NatWest send us (what turns out to be one of MANY reminders) about the Business Banking Switch Incentive, with £1,500 for switching, in some cases. Having traded for five years and barely used any "cash" as such, full online banking seemed to be the sensible way forward - we had heard adverts for Starling Bank and, as it turns out, its already award winning performance, so we chose them. Using the banking switch mechanism, all direct debits were transferred effortlessly, along with completing details for Starling, which included recording a short, scripted video to prove that we are indeed, very hard working human beings.. Any queries on our part were answered promptly by email, the switch was completed and our new business bank account received the £1,500 switch incentive some 7-10 days later on. There came a point where the constant reminders from NatWest regards fair banking and business switch choices etc, made us feel as if we were being kicked out - maybe this because of the Business Bounce Back Loan that we took out with them during 2020, while our business adapted to new ways or working in a pandemic - we fortunately never had to touch the £6,000 loan that we took out, but it came very close. Subsequently, the amount for the loan had been sat waiting for our switch completion to Starling - happy to say, we have just cleared the loan, and some 2 months later, NatWest have finally closed the old accounts, along with us receiving some pointless emails and post since leaving them in Dec 20 / Jan 21, making us wonder if there is any one actually monitoring any of their customer experience - mobile app finally deleted from phones. Starling have been brilliantly effortless, and we now hopefully have enough tucked away in one of our "Spaces" to cover our Corporation Tax bill for 22 / 22. The Starling banking app is great, we especially like the breakdown of different types of income and expenditures - quite an eye opener - the desk top version also, with a quick security check via the mobile app, is very effective. We wish Starling all the very best in the British Banking Awards, and, in anticipation, massive congratulations (TBC!?)
