Cannot renew my Gadget and Laptop computer Insurance policy because of multiple claims rule

3
I am returning to my third year at Manchester university, at the start of my second year I was the victim of a burglary in my student house. The intruder entered my room via a first floor window at 3 am in the morning while I was sleeping. I woke to find him in my room standing over my bed, he stole my laptop and phone and climbed back out the window. I claimed against my insurance policy with Endsleigh (who are insurance Brokers) and both items were replaced, the service was very good. But when I came to renew my policy with Endsleigh this year I have been told by Endsleigh that I have made two claims against my insurance policy and they cannot renew my policy. It appears that although the claim I have made was for one very frightening incident where I lost my phone and laptop, the company's underwriters Zurich count this as two claims against the separate elements that make up my policy. So be careful and read the terms and conditions as what is advertised is not as rosy as it appears if you have to make a claim because you have been a victim of a burglary or similar. They will count the items stolen rather than the number of incidents that have occurred. They will refuse to insure you if you have more than two items stolen from different parts of your policy, in this case a laptop and a mobile phone. This is not explained clearly when you take out a policy, you assume that it is one policy covering everything and if you make a claim because of a single incident, logic would dictate that this would be counted as one claim against your policy, this is not the case. So I am left with no insurance to cover my phone and laptop, I thought that insurance companies were there to cover risk, they are happy to take the premiums but when challenged by actual risk they run. The staff who work for Endsleigh are all very pleasant, but are bound by strict rules and have no decision making powers, decisions are dictated by the underwriters who sit with Zurich, it was impossible to put a case to anyone to challenge the decision not to insure my laptop and phone this year. So if you want your stuff insured while at University, be careful what you claim for as the company does not seem to make distinctions between a single incident/claim and the number of items lost, so like me you could end up being told you have made multiple claims against your policy for a single incident!
