Brilliant banking but not perfect

I’m a big fan of Monzo, it felt like they were the catalyst for technical advancement in an archaic industry. For the first time in my life it feels like I’m not constantly being manipulated and tricked to pay unnecessary charges and their system feels transparent and helpful. Support is prompt and human. Lots of useful tools and features. I do, however, have a couple of minor gripes, the user interface of the app feels awkward, it was updated some years ago and it lost its intuitive structure. I’ve watched people new to Monzo struggle to get a hang of moving between pots and accounts. I’ve also received numerous emails selling loans only to he told at the first stage of application that being self-employed means I don’t have a regular income which is untrue and a very dated way of looking at employment status. A breath of fresh air

For years I battled with overpriced technically inept business banking. Archaic systems, delays, obscene charges and processes designed to trip you up and trick more money out of your pocket. Monzo does all the things you want a business account to do, instantaneous payments, automatic tax savings, warnings when payments are due, recognition of patterns and subscriptions, categorisation for accounts and prompt, human, local support. It’s a breath of fresh air. It’s amusing to watch the high street banks doing their best to compete after dragging their feet for years, knowing full well giving their customers control over their own money would mean fewer opportunities to exploit money out of them. Well done Monzo for disrupting the industry and giving your customers banking that feels like it’s designed to help not hinder and deceive. Reviewed on: 24th January 2022
