Life Savers

I had never been in debt until I finished work and my income was my pension. I became overwhelmed with my situation and absolutely did not know where to turn. My mental health was badly impacted by the situation. Stepchange was suggested to me. I contacted them and recieved non judgemental support with several options explained to me. There was a period of " breathing space" which did enable me to breathe for the first time in months. A programme was agreed and the StepChange contacted the companies involved and obtained a payment plan. It took me 3 years to clear my debts and StepChange supported me throughout. Stopped me losing my mind

Id tried to manage my debt but the anxiety continued to rise. I was unable to switch to no interest credit cards and so paying a lot of interest. Each month I felt dragged down further into the black mud, my mental health was suffering. I contacted Stepchange and found the non judgement and practical assistance to set up a debt management plan unbelievable. The reduction in pressure for the companies to agree to an arrangement I feel saved my life. I have upheld the arrangement religiously, sometimes its difficult but I know there is light at the end of the tunnel. I also know that again without judgement I can contact Stepchange to renegotiate payments if my budget is too stretched with the increase in cost of living. Reviewed on: 28th July 2022
