Monzo is getting bigger, loosing what made it great

Despite rating Monzo 5 stars previously, and always supporting their nominations into awards, unfortunately, as the bank has grown, particularly over the past 12 months, it has lost its touch with what made it great. To name a few; I understand that there is always a natural response to change, but the app redesign took away a few key visual reminders around the balance of all my accounts - wiping away the value it gave me to keep spending under control. Another, I am now forced to use saving pots in order to access any interest rate - this has meant my account no longer works well with my budgeting app, and added an additional step to seeing my total balance. A lack of innovation on the Plus account led to me moving to the free account. Lastly, the customer service is really difficult to access - most respond like robots, and if you don't view the response within a couple of hours, the option to view their answer vanishes and I have to start again. I can count on one hand how many times I have had to contact customer services since being a customer, back when Monzo had a slightly different name, and it makes me incredibly nervous if I ever need their help. No waiting times

When I flex something, I don’t have to wait for it to appear on my bank statement, if I pay it off, I don’t have to wait 5 working days for it to “clear”. With flex I get instant gratification that it’s paid off. Also, they now have 3 month interest fee payments, and pay in full on next payment date, which combined with Flex being combined with my main bank account, it means it may all finally all be in one place! Monzo Flex also recently protected me with a section 75 claim on a faulty product, and customer services were fair and detailed. Reviewed on: 23rd February 2023
