Avoid M&S Credit Card.

1
I ordered an M&S credit card as there was an offer of 0% interest over 24 months. The card took 10 days to arrive and I enabled it using the telephone facility. So far so good. Next I tried to register for the app and the screen said I was successful. I logged out and later tried to log in again to familiarise myself with navigating the app. It said the password was incorrect despite the fact that it was saved automatically on my apple iPhone device from when I had registered and I had also temporarily written it down on paper. I tried to use the "forgotten password" facility and the instructions said to log in and enter the password first but of course I couldn't do this as my password wasn't accepted. This was a catch 22 situation. I tried again and eventually my account became blocked. I telephoned and got an operator who had very little command of English and who I could barely understand. He asked a number of security questions the details of which I had not yet given them. He told me to insert my card in the electronic device I had requested. I had never made such a request and thus had no device. I’ve subsequently found that these devices can only be used once anyway for one's first login and one then has to use a pin number which will appear at the bottom of the login screen. On reading various reviews I found that this number more often than not doesn't appear. This sounded more like a scammer tying to hack my account. I gave up. I have two other credit cards whose apps work faultlessly. M&S’s card provider needs to address the problems with the app or people will simply not use the card. M&S stores are first class but the credit card app's uselessness will tarnish their reputation. I would recommend Sainsbury's Bank credit card which I have used for several years. Their app is secure and user friendly and the operatorsI have encountered in their call centre are efficient, friendly and speak clear understandable English. My initial reason for obtaining the M&S card was the 2 years 0% interest on balance transfers which was offered. In view of my experience I have tranferred the M&S card balance to my Sainsbury’s card which has cost me money but at least still has two years 0% interest. I wish I’d first read the various online reviews, page after page of which show people have had the same experience as me, before wasting my energy and money on the M&S credit card. I have far better things to do with my time and money. Reviewed on: 21st June 2023
