Genuinely saving lives

When the cost of living crisis took hold and me and my family found we were struggling to pay for heating, putting food on the table etc after paying all of our unsecured debts I found myself in a dark place. Not being able to provide for your family is one of the hardest things to comprehend as a husband and father and I found myself considering whether ending my life was a way out. A counsellor recommended I talk to step change to get help. They immediately put my on a breathing space programme where my creditors stopped hounding me and worked through a budget and payment plan that I could afford NOT what the creditors were demanding. I know its going to take me a number of years to clear these outstanding debts but the help Step Change gave me helped me back from the brink of suicide and gave me hope going forward Reviewed on: 13th July 2023
