Pain (and effort) free banking

I was a satisfied customer of a traditional bank for many years, until they withdrew a customer perk that I'd liked, and when I complained, they invited me to look elsewhere. So I did. I'd always been shy of online banking, and while I'd used it, I had never banked on an app, and never thought I would - being 72 now, my early adopter phase has long gone. But having decided to look around, I thought it only fair to consider the 'neobanks', especially as you can't slide a razor blade between the offerings of the traditional banks, unless you start counting branches. Starling immediately looked attractive: minimal, no fuss, no grandiose claims, and no branches; I'd only entered my bank on about three occasions in 20 years, and that was to use a cash machine out of the rain. I was further impressed with a smooth transition. No errors, no anxiety, up and running from Day 1. And the app is a dream. easy to navigate, easy to use, excellent and instant communication, easy set up for payments ... I could go on endlessly. I just love it. My only anxiety is that it might get swallowed by a desperate old-style bank fearful of the competition and anxious to restore their falling numbers! Reviewed on: 20th September 2023
