Review of the Zopa, Smart Saver:

Decent savings rates managed from your phone.

I've been a long time client of Zopa - from way back when they were managing peer-to-peer loans. Always been a fan of their model and was pleased to see their business evolve into the personal savings market with decent rates and a good amount of flexibility. Sign up was simple, and once in the app it's really easy, under the cover of the single account, to set up different savings "pots" to ringfence your money. Each pot can be independently managed with different levels of access, from instant (which pays the lowest interest), through seven days and a month to 3 months (which pays the highest). Money is transferred in and out of the account from accounts you have with other banks and these need to be set up on the app before they can be used. Account management is exclusively managed through the app which I find simple and intuitive. The only drawbacks for me? The occasional rounding error which means that balances in pots are sometimes a few pence out from the sum of the transactions. That I can't export a statement for import into the financial management software I use. And finally that there's no option to gain instant access to a pot with a longer access time, even with the loss of all interest for the notice period which may be available on other accounts - although I can see that this might be a deterrent from raiding a pot! All in all, I'd recommend Zopa Smart Saver to anyone... Reviewed on: 9th January 2024
