Review of the Monzo, Flex Purchase credit card:

Good Product Held Back by One Extremely Irritating Flaw

Flex is a great product for me as I often travel abroad and so it grants access to the same exchange rates as Monzo current accounts get. This, and the integration of Flex into the Monzo app (and the really pretty physical card itself) make Flex a really good service. The recently introduced cashback options (again very well-integrated) are also very welcome. However, I am really very annoyed that there is no option to have the payment plan default to anything other than (1) one instalment at the end of the statement period (as with the other cards I own), (2) the minimum monthly payment (which effectively is opting in to paying interest on every single purchase), or (3) to go through the time-consuming and fiddly process of manually choosing the payment period on every single transaction individually. There should definitely be the option to opt for the maximum period possible without incurring interest payments, as is my preference when money is tight. Perhaps Monzo has intentionally made this difficult in order to shuttle people into paying interest, but I sincerely hope that this is something that will be updated soon. Without this issue, I would definitely recommend this card without hesitation. Reviewed on: 18th January 2024
